What to Do and Where to Eat on Maui, Hawaii

 Hey Girl Hey,

Aloha! We just came back from a 9 day family vacation on Maui, Hawaii. Before we left we researched everything then when there asked locals where to go and what to see and ended up seeing, eating our way though Maui having a blast in between. In this blog I will run though how we got here, our stay, where we ate, what we rented and saw throughout our experience on the island. We loved to share with you in hopes of you having a awesome time there too.

We found the cheapest way to book travel and stay is combining them both together. We booked on hawaiianairlines.com For me it was the best flight in a while. They are one of the last airlines that serves complimentary food, and rum punch! YUP that’s right right before we landed they served all who’s 21 and over Hawaiian Rum Punch! Holla to that! We were also able to book our car here as well.. Hertz gave us no problems. Right after we landed a Hertz bus picked us up and took us straight to our car (we had a ford expedition for the week) it was perfect!

Bringing the family with us means we had to book a few hotel rooms so we decided on this trip to rent a condo! Hololani Rentals was where we stayed, it’s located at 4401 Lower Honoapiilani Road Lahaina, HI  It had a kitchen, dining, family room, 2 bedrooms.. 1 queen and 2 twins. it also had a Murphy bed that sleeps another 2. Both the family room and master have sliding glass doors that lead to the balcony. We had a ocean view in unit B. It faced north so then sun wasn’t in our zone all morning long. At the condo they have a pool, family room and a selection of boards to barrow/use for the day, We used a few boogie boards and left a few floating noodles there. They also offer Free underground parking if you rent a car. A few days before you arrived you’ll receive a email with a App to download called Hospitality. Since there is no front desk/lobby or anyone to speak to this app gives you all the info you need including your room number, weather, RAQs and local suggestions. Each condo has a keypad vs a key, the app will provide you with your code. Its a super chill relaxing place. We really felt at home.

With 6 of us we made our first stop at Costco right by the OGG airport to pick up milk, cereal and snacks for the condo and for the kids backpacks on hiking and beach/adventure days. We also picked up some fresh fruit and our beer/alcohol..  So make sure you bring your Costco card. (we ended up finding a ton of farmer markets for fresh fruit also)

Starbucks: Yup they have the fancy coffee on the island, drive thu even BUT they kinda don’t taste the same weirdly. The Starbucks food did but the drinks seemed off. it was perfect for the early morning when we took the road to Hana.

Java Jazz (Coffee house) had the best coffee, latte’s and frapps || 3550 Lower Honoapiilani Road in Lahaina its located in the Honokowai Marketplace. Java Jazz is also a restaurant for with full bar, like my mom has spaghetti, I had a wrap and it was really good!

Subway: We headed in Subway one morning before snorkeling to grab sandwiches.. super healthy, fresh and quick way to grab lunch on the go.

Maui Grill Ka’anaapali: we stopped in here just passing by, its off HWY 30 on a golf course, you can see it from the road.. BOMB food and full bar. We liked the Calamari & Poke nachos.. we tried a local dish called the Saimin just to try, its was made from a fish stock, wasnt what we thought but worth a try.

Lahaina Pizza Co.  this zone was located upstairs in Lahaina on Front street. We loved the Deep dish pizza however the Mia Tai’s were not worth the price.. The say they are the best but after 3 we disagree.

Braddah Hutts BBQ grill: the best BBQ we found was here. Its a Food truck located on Hana Hwy. towards the end. we got 3 BBQed chicken, white rice and a potato salads for the 6 of us! So good my mouth is watering now.. 5305 Hana Hwy

The General Store once you hit the very top of Hana Hwy and you think its over head into the Generl store for Chilli over rice Local recommendation and worth every bite. NOTE you will see anther general store but look up by the restaurant and you’ll find this store off to the left.

Moose McGillycuddy’s  has the BEST LOCO MOCO, Calamari appetizer & FULL bar!!! Anther local fav that we had to try. GREAT atmosphere with AMAZING views, we were able to see whales breaching from our seat, it also has a perfect view of Molokini. * located upstairs at 2511 S Kihei road in Kihei

Nalu’s South shore Grill: Nice bar with good beer. On Fridays they have Live Entertainment || located in the Azeka Shopping Center on South Kihei ALSO the shopping center has a town party every 4th Friday || Live band, Local artist, hula hoops. entertainment for kids and even a car show.

Lahaina Fish Co.  Located on front street in Lahaina, we walked in with 6 of us, waited maybe 10 mins and got a window seat that was to die for.. Open windows with of course gorg view. We came right after sunset. Good kids menu too!

Mama’s Fish House: Oh where do I begin… first make a reservation! For 6 they were booked for 2-3 WEEKS out.. we ended up calling back and reserving 2 tables of 3. So book now before you go! Mouth watering food! We had the Kula Avocado & crab guacamole for Appetizer, I had the Opakapaka caught at 800 ft depts near Lanai, VERY FRESH AND OBVI LOCAL. it was sauteed with Hamakua mushrooms, garlic butter, white wine and capers. My mom and Husband loved Mama’ stuffed fish, stuffed with lobster and crab, baked in a macadamia nut crust, Hands down the best ever!!!! They also proved a kids Menu, Brenna enjoyed a big ol steak! 799 Poho place,  Paia, Hi (808) 579-8488 (*it is a little pricey, but priceless)

Feast of LeLeWe chose the Feast of Le Le for our Lual of the trip because it was a sit down dinner with our own table with a server. It offers an amazing 4 course meal at sunset overlooking the Maui Ocean. You come in to complimentary drinks as you wait to be seated, Once you walk down to your seat you were welcomed with a Orchid Lei. Traditional Hawaiian music plays by a live band as the Lual gets started.. As you get served each Polynesian course you were entertain with a dance from that zone … Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti and Samoa. The evening ended with cool fire dancers, a warm towel and traditional Hawaiian Haupia coconut pudding dessert . 505 Front street in Lahaina Call for reservations 866-244-5353

Shaved Ice: its everywhere look for it.. super refreshing when it’s hot

Sammy’s Beach & Grill: Located at the OGG airport in Kahului We all have to be to the airport early to basically sit and wait so why not sit in an outdoor zone that’s Sammy Hagar’s? The best chicken nachos, loco moco, burger and well drinks!

⇒ Drive the Road to Hana, swim under waterfalls,  go hiking, there is lots to see.. this is a time to legit chill and enjoy the ride, you are not going to just drive the road and expect to see cool shit, nope, actually get out of the car, find mile markers that lead to trails, a little hike can turn into seeing a HUGE waterfalls with beautiful swimming holes under. Take your time, you don’t have to visit every waterfall. but make sure you stop to see a few, Black sand beach is up there to. We talked to a local he should us a flower that grew at that beach that they used for soap back in the day., kinda cool. We didn’t but I’d suggest getting a Road to Hana CD || we left the condo at 6:30 AM

⇒ Watch the sunrise from Haleakalas summit || you’ll be getting up around 3am that’s all I can tell you.. This is planned for our next trip without the kids.. it would of been a long day but it is a must see.

⇒ Lahaina’s massive Banyan tree, the largest tree in the United States, located on Front street in front of City Hall || ask anyone they will point you in the direction.

⇒ Turtle watch: at multi beaches around the island we stumbled upon turtles sunbathing. Some we thought they were rocks but once we got closer they were huge turtles, PLEASE LOOK AND DON’T TOUCH THEM!!!!

⇒ When driving OR beach chillin look out at the ocean, between December – April, you can see whale spouts & breaching.. so cool!
